Key insights (AI-powered):
By integrating 3GPP Release 18 into an automotive module, Quectel is effectively advancing the 5G Advanced roadmap for connected vehicles. The native NTN support suggests that OEMs are preparing for hybrid terrestrial satellite coverage as a base rather than premium add-on coverage, particularly for security and OTA use cases. DSDA plus dual-band GNSS enable redundancy across multiple operators and constellations as ADAS requirements increase. Overall, this move signals that telematics hardware is being developed for highly automated, software-defined vehicles rather than legacy, infotainment-focused designs.
Quectel’s AR588MA brings 3GPP Release 18 5G-A, NTN satellite connectivity, DSDA, dual-band GNSS and eCall readiness to automotive connectivity.
Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global end-to-end IoT solutions provider, today announces the launch of the world’s first solution 5G-advanced (5G-A) automotive-grade cellular moduleThe AR588MAThis makes it the industry’s most powerful and reliable wireless communications product for vehicles.
Based on MediaTek’s latest generation MT2739 platform, the AR588MA supports 5G-A communication technology and is the first in the world to comply with the 3GPP R18 standard protocol. The module also features NB-NTN and NR-NTN satellite communication functions, supports dual SIM dual active technology (DSDA), provides improved cellular connection stability and reliability, and includes intelligent driving scenario recognition. Designed in accordance with the AEC-Q104 Class 2 automotive standard, it provides faster, more stable connectivity and reliable security for in-vehicle communications and benefits rooftop applications such as automotive smart antennas with higher temperature support
“The move to 5G-Advanced represents an important milestone in automotive connectivity and will meet the growing demands of next-generation vehicles for higher data rates, ultra-low latency and uncompromised reliability.” said Min Wang, President of Automotive Business Unit, Quectel Wireless Solutions.
“As the world’s first automotive-grade 5G Advanced cellular module, the AR588MA underscores Quectel’s commitment to advancing in-vehicle connectivity and supporting the development of intelligent, connected vehicles worldwide.”
Performance, reliability and intelligent connectivity
This product development towards 5G-A meets the demand for highly reliable products and meets the needs of intelligent driving for faster data transmission, stable data processing and low latency. It features the industry’s highest modem performance, enhanced uplink transmission capabilities and ultra-low latency, ensuring support for more efficient data transmission and real-time processing while maintaining stable network connectivity, which is a crucial support for the safety and reliability of higher-level intelligent driving.
The modem’s intelligent features can automatically switch to a more optimal connection mode based on different connectivity needs, significantly improving network speed and connection stability to ensure a smooth user experience.
GNSS, antenna design and automotive-grade compliance
Additionally, the module integrates dual-band GNSS, supporting both L1 and L5 bands with output up to 30 Hz. Building on Quectel’s extensive expertise in automotive wireless technology, a six-port antenna design combined with proprietary antenna and power compensation technologies delivers integrated module and antenna performance for robust, long-range, high-performance wireless connectivity. Compliance with the AEC-Q100 Class 2 automotive standard ensures the reliability and durability of the product even under extreme environmental conditions.
eCall readiness and drop-in compatibility
The module fully supports European eCall, NG eCall and AECS (China eCall), ensuring readiness for current and next generation emergency call systems. It offers drop-in compatibility with the AG581A, AG56xN and AG519M module series, reducing time to market for customers.
