A brawl broke out between players and staff from Bristol City and Millwall after the final whistle of Saturday’s Championship clash.
Millwall took all three points, an away win thanks to Mihailo Ivanovic’s goal on Saturday afternoon.
But there were unsavory scenes on the touchline where it was claimed Alex Neil refused to shake Gerhard Struber’s hand while Bristol City captain Jason Knight harassed the Millwall boss, before everyone got involved.
Alex Neil said after the game: “I shook his hand at the end of the game and he (Struber) kind of pulled his hand away. We certainly weren’t the instigators of that.”
Struber, meanwhile, replied: “That’s a big joke.” and added: “I’ll say that clearly. I shook hands with him twice and he wasn’t willing to shake my hand.”
I’ve missed some of that in the last few seasons.

Only at the end was I able to hit the big shot #bristolcity And #millwall Game.
Typical Alex Neil team. Ugly football, the only tactic was to try and hurt City’s players.
Fuck Millwall. Terrible club, terrible fans, terrible football. Pussies. pic.twitter.com/zm8rm9SX43

Millwall manager Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:
“Today was a tough performance where we had to make up for the awkward moments of the game and get chances. If we could take advantage of them we would win and that’s what we did.
“We don’t want to kid ourselves or anyone else that we sent Bristol off the pitch, but we defended resolutely and were dangerous in the second half and if we can do that more often we can win games.”
“You have to think about how many players we are missing. For the boys to pass this test, they come here to Bristol City, who have a good team, manage to get the win and keep a clean sheet…brilliant.”
The gaffer looks back on an important victory!

Twitter users expressed their reaction as a fight broke out between Bristol City and Millwall players and staff after the final whistle…
@bristolianeagle: Neil refused to shake Struber’s hand, Knight pushed him, Millwall coach grabbed Knight by the neck and then it started.
@Kem_rm: Knight is choked by DL-Fick Melt
@SteveHef:
Things in football that you don’t like to see.
*Love
@Callumc6230299: Livers, what a legend and the DOC ends up throwing themselves into the mix. Alex Neil, what a bloody gaffer. #Millwall
@Manly13plus: Classmate Livermore, Knight decided it would be a good idea to walk up to the opposing manager and shove him, and he got what was coming
@harryymayy: Proper old-school Wall-Livermore. Loves it. I doubted we had the fighting spirit on this side, but seeing everyone so supportive dispelled any doubts.
@CAslett97: Your captain pushed Alex Neil and that’s where it came from. Livermore choked him.
@charliemfc: Neil didn’t shake their manager’s hand because he didn’t stop complaining throughout the game. So their captain decided to push Alex Neil…. Then Livermore beat them all up.
@DannyMajor2: Livers fucking loved this
@alareeves05: Fucking love, Alex Neil
@zamp69wall: How dare he? I really liked how our boys defended Alex!!
@LJE1885: Cry baby, haha. Take the L and hold it.
@00Sev: Some fighting at the end of the Bristol City v Millwall game between players and management staff. Scenes we love to see!
@harrymfc1: Alex Neil gets stuck at the end! Damn, I love the geezer Millllllllll #millwall
@CAbbott_47: For what happened after the game. Bristol City can go fuck themselves. As usual, we will be the ones who will be negatively judged for this, but if you look at it, they are clearly the aggressors. This is what happens when your manager doesn’t shake our manager’s hand. Wanker. #Millwall
@StanLDN: David Livermore, you fucking legend #Millwall
@Georgethem_ster: Apparently Struber tried the usual handshake again, but Alex Neil slapped his hand away, then Knight got involved and someone put their hands around his neck. At least that’s all I understand
@Callumc6230299: Livers, what a legend and the DOC ends up throwing themselves into the mix. Alex Neil, what a bloody gaffer. #Millwall
@Shoultsyswife: I love Bristol City’s collapse here tonight
@lucybcfc9: Alex Neil was a wanker when he managed Preston, Sunderland, Stoke and now Millwall. An anti-football bat that fits the entire Millwall squad. Absolute bastards.
@Streetyx3:
Neil talked to Struber
Knight objected.
Milwall’s assistant put his hands around Knight’s neck.
Initiated
In the background, corns are hitting someone.
Williams had the assistant by the collar.
Brilliant stuff. Lol
@jimmneal: 3 points and a fight – the perfect Millwall away day – I love it MIIIIIIIIII
@jake_c1995: Joe Williams drags the Millwall guy to the ground. What a guy
@CAGBCFC: Well, at City the coaching team was completely crazy the whole game. I’m glad we actually fought back and completely upset them #BristolCity
@MIL0SEVIC: What disgraceful behavior from Bristol City players. What disrespect for England’s greatest manager. This is the harshest punishment. #Millwall won and someone can’t stand it.
Keep going Dave pic.twitter.com/N0PgQZOFax
