Key insights (AI-powered):
By tightly coupling NXP’s i.MX 9 compute with Wi-Fi 6 and multiprotocol radios in an entry-level form factor, Quectel is pushing advanced connectivity deeper into cost-sensitive IoT segments. This convergence reduces BOM and design complexity and makes thread/matter and rich multimedia viable in traditionally low-margin devices. Additionally, it positions Wi-Fi 6 as a practical backbone for industrial HMIs and gateways that previously relied on pure Ethernet designs. The move underscores a broader shift toward integrated multi-radio edge platforms as the standard for scalable IoT deployments.
Wi-Fi 6 enabled NXP i.MX modules target cost-sensitive and scalable IoT designs
Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global provider of end-to-end IoT solutions, today introduced its SRG091X And SRG093X Series modules at CES in Las Vegas, offering integrated CPU, memory and wireless connectivity around the NXP® Semiconductors i.MX 9 series of application processors.
This new generation of modules is designed for industrial environments that require high levels of automation, as well as consumer applications that require high data throughput and advanced multimedia capabilities. By integrating storage and wireless functionality into a single solution, the modules simplify OEM design, accelerate time to market and reduce development effort for IoT manufacturers worldwide. These modules are well suited for a variety of applications including industrial HMIs, gateways, scanners, printers, energy meters, electric vehicle charging stations, smart speakers, POS systems, smart doorbells, smart locks and many other connected devices.
Delbert Sun, deputy general manager of Quectel Wireless Solutions, said:
“The SRG091X and SRG093X series modules are designed to deliver powerful computing performance for industrial, multimedia and consumer applications.”
“The modules offer Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and 802.15.4 (Thread/ZigBee) connectivity, as well as a wide range of interfaces, particularly for video-based use cases. This new generation of modules offers powerful processing and multimedia capabilities for use cases across the IoT and we look forward to seeing how the modules support customers’ innovations.”
Based on NXP’s energy-efficient i.MX 91 processor, the SRG091X integrates the NXP IW610G and offers Wi-Fi 6 in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, BLE 5.4 connectivity as well as 802.15.4 (Thread/ZigBee) and Matter. It can also be used with Quectel’s Wi-Fi HaLow and cellular modules, extending the capabilities of the SRG091X. The SRG091X uses the Linux, Zephyr or freeRTOS operating system and integrates the NXP i.MX 91 processor, which contains the powerful Arm® Cortex®-A55 CPU with up to 1.4 GHz and offers 1 GB of LPDDR4 and 8 GB of eMMC memory.
The module also supports numerous peripheral interfaces, including video output via a parallel 24-bit RGB interface that supports LCD screen display. The SRG091X also offers, among other things, a dual 1 Gbit/s Ethernet interface, several low-speed interfaces, two USB 2.0 and two CAN-FD interfaces, four ADC interfaces and S/PDIF.
The SRG093X also includes NXP’s IW610G and offers Wi-Fi 6 in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency range as well as BLE5.4 and 802.15.4 (Thread/ZigBee) and Matter connectivity. This module features the NXP i.MX 93 processor, which includes the powerful dual-arm Cortex-A55 CPU running up to 1.7GHz and a Cortex-M33 microcontroller running up to 250MHz. The memory consists of embedded 1 GB LPDDR4X and 16 GB eMMC.
The SRG093X uses Linux, Zephyr or freeRTOS operating systems and offers LVDS, RGB and MIPI_DSI video output interfaces to support LCD screen displays. Other interfaces include a dual 1Gbps Ethernet interface, low-speed interfaces including SPI, UART, I2C and I3C, two USB 2.0 and two CAN FD interfaces, four ADC interfaces, two 32-pin FlexIO interfaces and S/PDIF. With a programmable resolution of up to 2K and display PXP with 2D graphics, the module can run deep learning algorithms to meet the needs of industrial edge devices and intelligent terminals.
Both the SRG091X and SRG093X have dimensions of 46mm x 41.5mm x 3.0mm and operate in the temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
To support this release, Quectel offers a range of optimized antennas designed to complement the SRG091X and SRG093X modules, ensuring robust wireless connectivity and reliable signal performance in various deployment scenarios. These antennas are designed to match the frequency bands and application requirements of the modules, helping OEMs reduce integration complexity and shorten time to market.
